- What is the advantage of mass-dyed black paper over surface-printed black paper? Mass-dyed paper is colored throughout the entire pulp during manufacturing — the black is consistent from surface to core. Surface-printed black paper has a coating applied on top which can scratch off, show white at cut edges, and wear unevenly under erasing or heavy media. The Paint-ON Black uses mass-dyeing for a fully stable, uniform result.
- Can this pad handle both wet and dry media in the same piece? Yes. The 250 g/m² weight provides enough structural rigidity to handle wet acrylic washes and gouache layers alongside dry pastel and pencil work on the same sheet without significant warping or surface breakdown.
- Which side is best for metallic ink and calligraphy work? The smooth reverse face is optimized for ink-based tools — metallic calligraphy gel pens, white ink pens, and fine paint markers all flow cleanly without feathering or tip wear on the smooth surface.
