The Clairefontaine Paint-ON Naturel A4 is a heavyweight sand-toned paper pad for daily illustration, life drawing, botanical art, and graphic design work. The warm natural buff tone is mass-dyed directly into the pulp — solid and uniform through the full sheet thickness, with no white edges when cut and no surface wear under heavy erasing or wet media. The organic background shifts how colors read on the page: cool tones gain warmth, earth shades feel grounded and immediate, and white highlights pop with a luminosity that white paper simply cannot replicate as a starting point.

The 250 g/m² cellulose stock handles heavy erasing, scratching, and layered wet media without tearing or pilling. Dual-sided surface — fine grain face for charcoal, pastel, and pencil, smooth reverse for ink pens, acrylic markers, and calligraphy gel pens. Thirty sheets in standard A4. Top-glued for fray-free sheet separation. Acid-free, pH-neutral, PEFC certified.

Common Questions
  • How does the sand tone affect color rendering compared to white paper? The warm buff mid-tone shifts the energy of colors applied on top — cool tones pick up warmth, earth shades feel more naturalistic, and light values like white or pale yellow appear more luminous. It also eliminates the need to lay down a mid-tone base before value drawing, which speeds up the compositional process considerably.
  • Is the coloration stable under prolonged UV exposure? Yes. The mass-dyed process runs the sand tone uniformly through the pulp during production. The acid-free, pH-neutral formula is UV stable — the warm tone will not shift, bleach, or yellow under normal display conditions over time.
  • Can heavy wet media and dry media be combined on the same sheet? Yes. The 250 g/m² weight handles gouache layers, acrylic washes, and liquid inks alongside charcoal and pastel on the same sheet without significant warping, surface breakdown, or pigment interference.
