The Leuchtturm1917 A5 Plain Hardcover is a completely blank notebook built for artists, designers, and thinkers who work without ruled or gridded constraints. The rigid hardcover doubles as a drawing surface — stable enough to sketch on your lap in transit, in lecture halls, or in the field without a desk surface underneath. For moments when straight-line alignment is needed, a double-sided mobile guide sheet is included — ruled lines on one face, squared grid on the other — slipping beneath any blank page to provide temporary structure without committing to a pre-printed format.

The same 80 g/m² acid-free, ink-proof paper as the Dotted and Ruled editions — fountain pen and fineliner compatible with minimal ghosting. Thread-bound flat-lay hardcover, 251 numbered pages, full standard inclusions throughout.

  • How does the mobile guide sheet work in practice? The double-sided card slips freely beneath any blank page — ruled lines on one face for text alignment, squared grid on the other for layout or planning work. It moves through the notebook as needed so temporary structure is always available without the page itself being pre-printed.
  • Is the plain format suitable for watercolor or wet media sketching? No. At 80 g/m² the paper is not designed for wet media — it will buckle and warp under watercolor or heavy ink washes. It performs well with dry media, fineliners, fountain pens, and light brush pen work.
