The defining feature here is the tip: hand-assembled synthetic nylon filaments that flex and split under pressure like a real brush, then bounce back to a sharp point — unlike felt-tip brush pens, which fray and dull permanently with use. That spring-back means one pen genuinely moves between a 0.5 mm hairline and a 4.0 mm bold sweep depending on how you hold it and how hard you press, which is the whole appeal for manga inking, modern calligraphy, and travel sketching where you don't want to carry multiple pens. The ink is acid-free pigment, waterproof and fade-resistant once dry, so it holds up under washes and markers laid on top.

The set includes the pen plus 2 pigment refill cartridges to get you started — once those run out, refills are sold separately as the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen Refill Cartridges 4-Pack.
