This is the full 48-color Gansai Tambi set, poured into large rectangular pans rather than the smaller compressed pans typical of Western watercolor sets, which means there's more paint to work with per pan before needing to rewet it repeatedly. The pigment is highly concentrated and behaves differently depending on how much water is used: heavily diluted, it lays down as a transparent wash like standard watercolor; applied thicker with less water, it sets with an opaque, slightly glossy finish closer to gouache, giving two distinct looks from the same paint.

That opacity is also what lets these colors stand out clearly on dark or black paper, where a typical transparent watercolor would barely show up at all. The set comes in a traditional box with a removable lid and a built-in chart for cataloging swatches.
